SINGAPORE, 29 October 2007… interTouch (http://www.inter-touch.com), a premier provider of managed services to the global hospitality industry, today announced it had conducted successful tests of IP convergence service on smart phone devices over WiFi.
Conducted at interTouch hotels in Tokyo, Singapore and Vietnam, these tests included synchronisation of content, as well as video telephony on smart phone devices connected via interTouch’s broadband in hotel rooms.
Dual WiFi 3G mobile phones were used, and the quality of video conferencing proved to be as good as that of traditional mobile phones. Users were able to download synchronised content such as five-minute news clippings and talk to people in each country.
“With more and more overseas business travellers bringing dual WiFi/3G mobile phone for data access, content download and IP telephony applications, we believe IP convergence services provided by interTouch in hotel rooms will bring a value to mobile roaming users,” said Mr Toshinari Kunieda, Senior Vice President & MD of Global Business Department of NTT DoCoMo, the parent company of interTouch.
These successful tests prove that convergence is an applicable concept and set interTouch on the road to expanding its services in this direction.
Pleased with the outcome, CEO Charles Reed commented, “Everyone talks about convergence. With these tests, interTouch has made this a reality. Our hotels and their guests can look forward not only to the secure and premium-quality broadband services that interTouch provides, but also to expanded services that boast IP convergence.”
